Babies - Step-By-Step to Newborn Photography by Ati Grinspun
If you just had a baby, chances are you are obsessed over taking pics every minute, every little thing and every detail, I am too! I'm a photographer and I never cease to be amazed by the wonder of new life.
If you already got the professional shots done and want tips on how to get something similar at home here is a little help.
- THINK AHEAD - how do you want your images to look like.
- Use the natural light on your home to photograph the little newborns, get close to a window. This is the most flattering light, allowing you to get those beautiful candid shots.
- Get Close: Don't be afraid to get close, limit your image to what is really your subject, THE BABY.
- Get them sleeping AND awake
- Get the details: Here comes one of my favorite part of the newborn shoot. They are only this small for so long, so make sure to get in close and Isolate the little parts, Hands, ears, hair, feet, and blur the background by using the Widest aperture you can get and the longest focal length you have available.
- Accessorize: I ALWAYS have a HAT on me, since babies tend to have pretty funny heads the first days of life, so a hat is always welcome and makes for a great prop. Other accessories are baskets, flowers for the little girls.
- KEEP IT SIMPLE: Keep the background off clutter, the cleaner and simpler the background the more focus will go to your subject and it's little details and faces.
- TURN YOUR FLASH OFF: No matter what camera you have, even if you are using a small point and shoot, if you have enough light, this will make the world of difference turn your flash off!
